AOD & Harm Reduction Training for Youth Workers

The Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drug Association ACT (ATODA) are hosting alcohol and other drug (AOD) & harm reduction training in collaboration with the Youth Coalition of the ACT. There will be 2 x one day training sessions, held on 30 & 31 October, and there is no charge to attend (a late cancellation / no show fee policy applies).

The training will present information about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) in the ACT and Australia. It will also introduce participants to harm reduction approaches to use with clients, as well as information on engagement, tools and strategies on how to trigger and have conversations with young people.

The training will cover:
  • Values and attitudes about ATOD use
  • Introduction to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) in Australia – who is using what (ACT and Australia)
  • Overview of harm minimisation and harm  reduction
  • Detailed information about alcohol, cannabis and methamphetamine (including their use and prevalence)
  • Evidence for and introduction to screening (e.g. ACT eASSIST available at www.act-eassist.org.au/)
  • Basic information on how to conduct a brief intervention
  • ACT alcohol, tobacco and other drug sector orientation and referrals
