News from The Youth Coalition: ACT Election Policy Map for Young People

This week The Youth Coalition of the ACT released their ACT Election Policy Map which aims to assist young people in navigating the election in October.

It highlights key policies from ACT Election candidates, and how they plan to address issues that are important to young people of the ACT.

This tool is a non biased compilation of responses from ACT Election candidates.

All parties and independent candidates were provided a list of questions, relating to ideas and topics that are areas of concern to many young people in the ACT.

Youth Worker Practice Network Member Session - Supporting Young People Bereaved by Suicide

The next Youth Worker Practice Network session will be held this coming Tuesday 2 August, from 9:30 - 11:30am. This session will be facilitated by Sam Gill, coordinator of the Canberra StandBy Response Service. This is a suicide postvention service which support people who have lost a loved one to suicide. Sam will be sharing practical tips on how you can support a young person bereaved by suicide. She is also happy to answer any questions you have.

All frontline youth workers are invited to join us.

Ahead of the ACT Election, the Youth Coalition, in partnership with member agencies, is holding a workshop with young people to discuss and unpack issues on interest and concern to young people in the ACT. Topics of discussion will include: education, mental health, housing and homelessness, LGBTIQ+, employment, arts and recreation, the environmnent, healthy relationships and transport. 

Please promote this event to any young people aged 15 - 25 who might like to come along and share their ideas.

Registrations are now open for Comorbidity Bus Tour C on Wednesday 10 August 2016. If you are interested in attending the tour, please register online here.

The Comorbidity Bus Tour visits a variety of services in the ACT from the alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD), mental health (MH) and youth sectors. The aim of the bus tour is to increase the capacity of frontline workers to support people experiencing co-occurring ATOD and MH issues (comorbidity).

The Training and Professional Development Calendar is produced bi-monthly by the Youth Coalition of the ACT in partnership with the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Association ACT (ATODA) and the Mental Health Community Coalition ACT.  The Training Calendar provides training and professional development opportunities for workers in the youth, alcohol, tobacco and other drug, mental health, family support and community sectors.
