Youth Coalition of the ACT 2014-15 Annual Report: The Strategic Plan

In 2014-15 the Youth Coalition Board and Staff team developed a strategic plan for 2014-18. The strategic themes under this plan are:

Organisation Sustainability

What does this look like?

The Youth Co has the reputation, resources and governance to be responsive, to the benefit of young people and those who work with them.

Outcomes

 ● Increase sustainability ● Lift profile and reputation ● Improve viability and credibility ● Strengthen and diversify financial capacity of org. ● Defined org identity ● Strong and productive governance structure

Activity

● Identify and resource new business/income opportunities. ● Targeted representation in sector, community and Gov. ● Finalise strategic plan ● Collaboration with other peaks ● Review and refine governance ● Strengthen financial reporting and budgeting processes.

Excellence in Partnerships

What does this look like?

The YC works has strong values based and outcomes driven partnerships with critical friends who advise, support and celebrate achievements

Outcomes

● Broaden reach of influence ● Values based and outcome driven partnerships ● Partnerships progress vision ● Critical partnerships are formalised and reviewed regularly ● Partnerships are recognised and acknowledged often.

Activity

● Influence decisions and political agenda ● Provide leadership in the development of youth policy. ● Review and strengthen relationship with Families ACT ● Identify strategic partnerships, document the learnings and tell the story

Youth Participation & Leadership

What does this look like?

Young people are valued, informed and able to influence decisions that affect their lives.

Outcomes

● Clearer understanding of what YP value ● Increased opportunities for YP to lead ● Young people’s voices are heard in the formulation of policy ● The ACT community has access to the views of a diverse range of young people’s view

Activity

● Identify opportunities for YP to be involved at all levels of the org work ● Review Youth Engagement Strategy when developed. ● Redefine membership parameters ● Identify opportunities for young people to engage with decision makers and political processes ● Promote good practice, tools and training to facilitate young people’s participation in public policy development

Sector Development

What does this look like?

The Youth sector has the skills, credibility, working relationships and capacity support young people to lead and participate building their lives and their communities

Outcomes

● Contemporary best practice is shared and accessible to youth sector. ● Professional development is rigorous and meets the needs of the sector workforce. ● Strong collaborative network supports service delivery.

Activity

● Continue to build on the work of the Youth Worker Practice Network ● Raise profile of youth work practice in the broader ACT community ● Connect workers in non youth specific settings to supports and resources to develop their skills to better support young people ● Continue to advocate for collaboration across disciplines to support young people to engage with education
